Approach & Access

The Divisional headquarters of Debrigarh Sanctuary is located at Sambalpur, which is situated both in NH-6 and starting point of NH-42. Sambalpur is 317 Kms away from State Capital-Bhubaneswar by road. The Sanctuary has two entry points located at Dhodrokusum, in the south of Debrigarh Sanctuary which is 40 Kms away from Sambalpur by road and Lakhanpur in the North which is 100 Kms away from Bargarh by road. Sambalpur is well connected by Rail to Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Chennai and several other places of India. Medical facilities are available at Medical College Hospital, Burla at a distance of 20 Kms from the entry point of the Sanctuary besides other Hospitals at Bargarh, Bhatli, Attabira, etc. Wireless network is available in the Sanctuary and Lakhanpur Range Office is connected by telephone. Bus facility can be availed from nearby places like Pahadsirgida & Lakhanpur. Taxi can also be procured on hire from Sambalpur, Bargarh, Burla, Bhatli etc.

The Sanctuary constitutes the forest crop of old Barapahar Hills and at present, the entire Lohara R. F. and Debrigarh R. F. It lies in the Chhotta Nagpur region of Deccan Peninsula 6d Biogeographic zone. The forest type of the sanctuary is mixed dry deciduous forest, which may be due to prolonged dry season and short monsoon period. The sanctuary is located in an area where mixed deciduous sal forests are found predominantly.
